My Weight Story continued

I had been dying to write this piece ever since I posted My Weight Story - my story of gaining weight during the pandemic. I had already begun imagining things I would tell my readers about how I lost my weight even when I wasn’t sure of how to lose some. Exactly the way an actor might be working on his award acceptance speech even before the release of their movie. But I told myself to pen this post only when the needle of my weighing scale returned to the 50s. Well, I feel proud to say that I now weigh in the 50s, although on the higher side😊. Well…umm… the journey still continues of course…

As I mentioned earlier, exercises didn’t work for me, and I had been looking for some easy to implement measures to lose weight. Now the obvious option to follow a diet didn’t quite interest me. No, I am not a foodie, but I can never imagine myself eating only veggies for a meal or worse skip a meal. Also, I need my regular doses of junk food to survive. I believed only walking twice a day will not be effective.

So, I started reading people’s experiences over the Internet and after a lot of reading chose to try intermediate fasting. It is not actually a diet but a lifestyle choice. It prescribes fasting for 16 continuous hours every day and eating healthy in the remaining 8 hours. It seemed impossible for me when I first read about it, but I thought of giving it a try by attempting to fast for at least 13 hours each day.

These are the three things that worked and continue to work for me:

  • I have three meals a day and avoid the in between snacks keeping a gap of around 14 hours between previous night’s dinner and the next day’s breakfast. It wasn't easy in the beginning though most of the fasting time was spent in sleeping. Keeping myself busy in the morning hours helped a lot.
  • I walk or stand for at least 15 minutes within the house after every meal instead of the eat and sit or the eat and lie down habit developed during the stay home stay safe period.
  • I continue eating everything I ate before and try to go for a walk whenever time permits.

I made an impressive weight loss of 2 kg in the first 2 months; I say impressive because I never expected to see any immediate results. Then on, the journey slowed quite a bit with only a few hundred grams of weight loss every month. What kept me motivating was that though the weight loss wasn’t significant, I continued to lose weight even when my walking routine went for a toss due to my work commitments.

I truly believe if I could do it, others can surely do better. And if you eat only healthy and manage to fast for 16 full hours, you will reach your destination faster than I did.

I am feeling ecstatic and proud to fit into my old clothes and plan to continue with this tried and tested lifestyle. So, now you could call me up and casually ask me about my weight, I wouldn’t mind😁
